Why do you need email?
The first thing you have to look at before you create email address, is what you need email for, the basic features of email will be obvious to everybody, ability to contact people on the other side of the world in seconds, the ability to use services such as paypal etc.
However there are much more advanced features, mainly for use in the business sector, however they can e both useful and fun in the private/ personal sector.
Features such as:
- Sending Emails to SMS numbers.
- Sending large files (images, videos) to people
- Sending faxes via your email address
- Larger storage space
- File storage
These types of services are readily available to anybody who is willing to pay for them, they can be bought pretty cheaply (a couple of dollars for around 100 pages). It is something to think about.
A lot of these services will become very popular and necessary with the current “cloud” boom.

What features do you need?
Choose which services you need and select a service based on what they can provide for you, a lot of services that are well know offer some but not all of these. You will often find the services that you want on a smaller, lesser-known platform, these smaller companies focus on having services that the bigger ones don’t to attract customers such as you. You will also find that they often have better customer services due to them knowing that this is a big problem for the larger companies.
Most of the choices out there will try to entice you with seductive first few months…. Offers, however if they are doing this it means that they expect you to sign a contract and stay with them beyond the trial period, tis will often be followed by a big price hike.
The other side of the coin is that if they offer a monthly service it means that they are confident that after your free trial you will like their service so much that the price hike will not be a deterrent in you staying with them. This is often a sign of a good service.Choosing a service
There are a lot of factors that you need to think about before choosing a service.
- The services they offer
- How much they charge
- How much you are willing to pay
- Are they commercially acceptable?
